HRNS

experimental electro-ambient duo by Joachim Saerens (keys/electronics) and Bert Hornikx (drums/electronics)

TAWAZUN

five improvised pieces for piano/Rhodes, drums and electronics

TAWAZUN is Arabic for “balance” or “equilibrium” – not as a fixed state, but as a movement between chaos and calm. Our new record lives in that space: five improvised pieces for piano/Rhodes, drums and electronics, moving in and out of that tension. Each track title points to a different facet of that movement

EKAKI – “alone” or “solitary” (Sanskrit)
SANDHYA – “twilight” or “transition”, often linked to evening prayer or meditation (Sanskrit)
MITAKUYE OYASIN – “we are all related” (Lakota)
VIKSEPA – “distraction, mental wandering, the mind drifting inward or outward” (Sanskrit/Mahayana)
HOMO VIATOR –“the travelling human” or “wayfarer”, always on the way, searchin for hope and meaning (Gabriel Marcel, Latin)

TAWAZUN was released digitally on 13 February 2026 and is available on all major streaming platforms, as well as a limited 10″ vinyl edition via Bandcamp.

In 2015 we released our debut album on vinyl with the Dutch label 6de Kolonne, featuring saxophonist Robin Verheyen.
The record was described as “poetic, mysterious and adventurous,” with nods to Sun Ra and a sound that is both industrial and fluid, abstract yet deeply musical.

The album is still available on Bandcamp as both a digital release and a limited vinyl edition. The record comes in a signature trademark design by Zesde Kolonne , with beautiful artwork by visual artist Erik Vermeulen– only a few copies left.

In 2012 we recorded a live session for Bandwerk. These performances capture an earlier incarnation of our sound – raw, spacious and already leaning towards the exploratory world HRNS lives in today.

About HRNS

HRNS is a collaboration between Joachim Saerens and Bert Hornikx, blending acoustic and electronic instruments into contemplative pieces. Live and on record, the duo moves between structured composition and open improvisation, leaving space for silence, texture and slow transformation.

Visual artist Martijn Pillards extends this world into moving image, creating live visuals and video work that mirror the music’s slow shifts in colour, light and texture. For TAWAZUN, he has crafted a visual language for each track, turning the album into a combined audio-visual journey.
